Transforming Lives in Africa

Education

Help us empower communities by providing education, clean water, and hope

No other investment has such a lasting effect as the education of children

We want Africa to be led by educated leaders. Education transforms lives. For most of Africa’s children, education represents the only way out of a life of entrenched poverty.

Improving Education in Africa Saves Lives

Building a school is an investment in human capital and community development. It offers the promise of a brighter future, not only for the children who attend but for the entire village. The impact ripples through generations, creating a legacy of empowerment, progress, and hope.

Here are some of the enduring benefits:

1.

Access to Education

The most immediate and significant impact is that children in the village gain access to education. A school provides a safe and conducive environment for learning, ensuring that generations of children can receive an education.

2.

Higher Income Potential

Education is closely linked to income levels. According to the World Bank, each additional year of schooling in Ghana is associated with an increase in earning potential by approximately 7-10%.

3.

Literacy and Numeracy

Education equips children with essential literacy and numeracy skills. They can read, write, and perform basic math, which opens doors to knowledge and opportunities and better long term decision making.

4.

Healthier Lives

Education also contributes to better health outcomes. Children learn about hygiene, nutrition, and disease prevention, reducing health risks in the community.

5.

Improved Gender Equality

Education challenges traditional gender roles and expectations. In Ghana, efforts have been made to close the gender gap in education, contributing to improved gender equality indicators and empowering children with knowledge and self-confidence. They become more aware of their rights and can make informed decisions about their lives.

6.

Breaking the Cycle of Poverty

By acquiring an education, children have a chance to break the cycle of poverty that has trapped their families for generations. They can pursue higher education and secure better employment prospects.

7.

Economic Growth

Education contributes to economic growth. Educated individuals are more likely to find stable employment and contribute to their community’s prosperity.

8.

Leadership and Empowerment

Education can nurture future leaders who drive positive change in their communities and country.

9.

Sustainable Development

Investing in education is a long-term strategy for sustainable development. Educated communities are better equipped to address challenges and adapt to a changing world.

Girl Empowerment

Girl Empowerment

Our aim is to improve Menstrual Hygiene Management amongst adolescent girls in the village of Abenta and surrounding hamlets. Break the taboo around the menstrual cycle amongst the local community

Overnight schools closed in Ghana during the coronavirus pandemic with little other support offered. Rural African children rely on school for access to basic needs such as water, sanitation and sometimes food. The school closures also put children at increased risk of exploitation, child labour, or early marriage. Without the protective environment of school, children were more vulnerable to abuse or exploitation.
Volunteering in West Africa

Volunteering in West Africa

We take around 50 volunteers a year out to West Africa. Volunteers are involved in many projects in Ghana. From building schools, health clinics, and toilet blocks, to teaching English or coaching the football team. It's a life-changing experience for our volunteers and the communities they help.
Early Years Education

Early Years Education

We have build 3 pre-schools for the under 4’s. Village by Village runs these schools that prepare the children to move into the kindergarten class and begin the start of their education. We run a feeding project to support and encourage attendance. The children learn basic numbers and songs. It is a very popular volunteering opportunity.
Cycle2Success

Cycle2Success

We are sometimes asked to build a new school by a community in poverty because the nearest Primary or Junior High School is too far away for their children to walk back and forth plus their chores and their homework. In some cases it is not practical due to the catchment area or estimated school population to build a new school. In these cases we provide and maintain a push bike for children living far from a school. We find this a cost effective way to keep pupils in schools in the more remote villages.
Building School Toilet Blocks

Building School Toilet Blocks

2,000 children die each day in Africa because of a lack of clean water and access to basic sanitation. So we build toilets to reduce those deaths and educate children, teachers and the community about issues of hygiene and sanitation.

We want Africa to be led by educated leaders. Education transforms lives. For most of Africa’s children, education represents the only way out of a life of entrenched poverty. No other investment has such a lasting effect as the education of children. We reach into the communities, we work together with the community to build the best possible building we can that will last a long time.
Scholarships

Scholarships

Education is the most powerful and effective way to address global poverty. In Ghana, education is free up to the age of 18, but to attend school you need shoes and a uniform. We work with the local Head Masters and village Chiefs to identify those families in the greatest need and provide shoes, books, pencils, bags, belts and a uniform.

Volunteer Overseas

Volunteering will probably be one of the most worthwhile things that you ever do.

We take around 50 volunteers a year out to Africa. Doctors, Nurses, Teachers, Bricklayers, Mechanics, and students, all pay their own costs and raise money for the projects they work on.

We have opportunities to work on a wide range of projects that save lives and create transformational change.

Without volunteers, many projects would not exist. Discover our volunteer opportunities.
