Each project begins in partnership with: the Ghanaian Health Service, the Education service, selected schools, their PTA and staff teams, and our team of Ghanaian builders. Once the areas and specific schools in most need have been identified by the Department of Education, the Village by Village team start by providing the facilities needed for hand-washing to take place.
Polytanks (plastic water tanks) and guttering are used to collect rainwater to support hand-washing. With the use of a veronica bucket (a plastic container designed with a tap at the bottom) water is released into a bowl acting as a sink.
All equipment can be locally replaced and repaired by those within the community, increasing the longevity of the project.
A six month supply of soap is provided to the school for project implementation alongside the Head Master’s signed commitment to continue to supply soap. This is a resource they will already have access to as soap is cheaply available in Ghana; however it is currently only associated solely for clothes washing.
