Volunteer in Africa

Help us empower communities by providing education, clean water, and hope

We are a registered charity looking for individuals to contribute meaningfully.

Tourists do not get to go to the villages we reach. Village by Village works in remote rural villages living in poverty in Ghana, West Africa. Volunteering will probably be one of the most worthwhile things that you ever do, so make it count. 100% of the money you raise goes directly to the charity. Why not see what you could do?

Some of the ways you can help change lives for children in rural Africa

Education/Early Learning

Education/Early Learning

Get out there and light up young people’s lives. You can make a positive difference to the next generation. You don’t have to be a qualified teacher (no TEFL required, but you can do more if you do) to volunteer on our teaching/learning project.
Construction Volunteers

Construction Volunteers

Build a brighter future for some of the world’s poorest communities, roll up your sleeves and get directly involved living and working with locals. All whilst you are getting a tan and working muscles you didn't know you had.
Film & Photography and Impact Story Teller

Film & Photography and Impact Story Teller

Got the eye for a great images and story telling? Africa is bursting with vibrant colourful imagery just waiting for that perfect shot. And imagery is one of the more vital ways we can explain how important the charity is to those people living in poverty.
Healthcare (Baby Weighing)

Healthcare (Baby Weighing)

Working with local district nurses you will help deliver public health interventions with activities such as baby weighing, vaccinations and sanitation education, ensuring the youngest community members are happy, healthy and getting stronger every day.
Children’s Sports Coach

Children’s Sports Coach

Our rural village sports programme seeks to add fun and excitement to the lives of those living in poverty as well as the possibility of finding the continent’s next great sports star! You’ll coach football, volleyball, rounders and other sports.
Specialist Volunteer

Specialist Volunteer

Professional skilled people like to volunteer and we want to utilise their specific skills to the utmost and we love: Builders, mechanics, electricians, teachers, Doctors and nurses, First Aid trainers, bike mechanics Prior to departure these volunteers will be asked to bring and any necessary paperwork/qualifications etc.

Is it safe to volunteer in Ghana?

Ghana is one of the safest countries in Africa. Our volunteer base is in the grounds of one of the schools we built so you will be surrounded by children most of the time you are with us. We have a purpose-built building based in a village in poverty designed with the community to house all our volunteers whilst they are with us.

Licensed DofE AAP’s are vetted for suitability of their programmes. For more information, have a look at the DofE website here

When you first come to the village we must ensure you are introduced to the village Chief as a matter of culture and the Elders of the community agree to let you fall under their protection whilst you are with us in Ghana. This isn't a tourist thing, it is good manners as we are guests in the local community.

Inspiring volunteer stories

Fundraising for your volunteer experience

You only have to fundraise £1,250 (1,300 Euro). 100% of that money goes as a direct donation to the charity.

We know it sounds a lot, but for a month of adventure in the jungles of West Africa and a lifetime of amazing memories, it's not.

Ideas for your volunteer fundraising

Ask a local business for a donation, do a sponsored walk, shave your head, start a pub quiz and in no time at all you will have raised the funds.

The ADVENTURE starts here!

Break the ice and make contact, we love chatting with volunteers to see if they have what it takes to make a difference, or they are willing to learn.

Be part of the solution not just another well-intentioned young person with a white saviour complex!
